Artist Biography

David Ruddell works with the familiar—plywood, cement, shellac, and institution paint—to explore how material and color affect an individual's senses. In the new constructions, the frames have grown larger in relation to his boat-like vessels. David Ruddell's work is in the permanent collection of the Oakland Museum of California, Smithsonian American Art Museum's Renwick Gallery, and the di Rosa Preserve in Napa, California.
