Jonathan Parker | "Pieces"
Reception: January 10, 2004, 3 p.m. - 5 p.m.

Jonathan Parker continues investigating shape and form by exploring the concept of the quilt and the human face. His stitched pieces, using fabrics, old canvases, along with paint and vegetable dyes have an intuitive and organic quality.

In his figurative paintings of African Americans, done on rough wood panels, the eyes of the individuals look out to the world, drawing the viewer into the picture to create an emotional exchange that echoes traditional folk art but with a decidedly raw sensibility.

Jonathan Parker is a self-taught artist, residing in San Francisco
