Artist Biography
Cabinet of Curiosities documents Cork Marcheschi's work and progression as an artist, over the past 40 years. Since 1968, when he moved from object making to working with energy, through to the present, Marcheschi has explored the nature of light, that vague area where brightness and darkness compliment or extinguish each other.
For Marcheschi the dual physics of light, wave-like and particle-like, make an appropriate metaphor for work that touches on the enigmatic aspects of life and loss. As Marcheschi writes, "The people I have been closest to have all had a sense of light about them. It is this intangible stuff that for me exists in the space between light and dark."
Marcheschi will also exhibit new wall and floor works incorporating marbles illuminated by LED lights. "It is the glow that fascinates me," he writes, "not technological control of lights, just the glowing."
