Artist Biography
Trained as a jeweler at the Rochester Institute of Technology, Dennis Luedeman's sculptures have the meticulous quality one expects of fine jewelry. Luedeman's personal intimacy with his materials allows him to produce complexity and visual interest by concentrating on the various levels of perception where the viewer interacts with the work. "The creation," says Luedeman, "is an exploration of the possibilities that can be generated through some rather basic processes."
The forms that Luedeman creates can appear simple, but each piece is technically and visually unique. His sculptures can be quiet and understated. Layered sheets of steel direct the viewer's eye to the interior of a piece, where Luedeman often creates an optical effect with gentle curves. Other works are more sinuous, made of stainless steel with curves, dimples, and folds meeting at finely finished edges.
Dennis Luedeman is a recognized craftsman, who collaborates frequently with architects and designers in the San Francisco Bay Area.
